The afternoon game drive kicks off after tea, giving eager clients a second opportunity to spot their favourite beasts. As the heat of day’s falls as the sun dips towards the horizon, and animals emerge from their daytime hides to search for their evening meal. The predatory animals begin to stir from their heat-of-the-day slumber, and similarly, their prey become ever more active and alert as darkness falls.

Being up early is a given on safari, the excitement of being out as the sun rises, and anticipating what awaits around the first turn along the track out camp, is what it’s all about. The iconic predators such as lion and leopard may still be on the move or on a fresh kill, and other animals are stirring from a night of suspense. You will be woken with your hot beverage of choice and will have a light breakfast before heading out.

Back to our lodge for a hearty breakfast, on the lookout for giraffes floating across the plains, or a family of elephants lumbering sedately amongst the acacia trees. After breakfast, you will have the chance for a nap or to read. Take the rare opportunity to lie back and relax!

There is always some activity around the camp, whether it be a herd of elephants drinking from the waterhole in front of camp, or a troop of monkeys creating havoc in the trees above your tent – always something to experience.

Afternoon tea – sometimes called high tea – is an old safari tradition, and is ordinarily served around 3pm. It’s a time to catch up on the day’s happenings and what might be in store for the game drive that evening.

Relaxing in the tranquil setting of the lodge with a giraffe or two in view, you will be served with a tasty assortment of homemade cookies, cakes, sandwiches, scones and fruit platters.

AND SHINE!

The sundowner is one of the most cherished of safari traditions. After the thrill of the day game viewing, you will be led to a carefully chosen spot - under an acacia tree perhaps or at the top of a hill, the plains laid out in front of you - where a selection of cocktails are waiting for you. Happy and tired from a long day of exploring, sit back drink in hand and know that these will be moments you will cherish forever.
